May 9-

1977-winds of 40 mph hit the island. No damage reported. Precip was light.
1990-Souwester begins after dark. Winds of 40 mph reported.
1998-Low pressure system moved slowly overhead. The center was south of the island.

2005- The tail end of the subtropical noreaster resulted in winds in excess of 55 mph.

This date in noreaster history 5/7

May 7-

1998- midd ay frontal passage resulted in SSE winds, and light rain.
2005- Cut off low pressure, that appeared Sub tropical in nature moved southeast off of Nantucket. The wind was out of the northeast sustained at 44 mph, with a peak gust of 55. Rainfall was quite heavy, and the heaviest fell at 5:50 AM. The event lasted all day.

May 3-

1974-Soueaster dumped rain on Nantucket. Peak wind gust was 34 mph.
1985- Coastal storm delivered winds of 52 mph and heavy rainfall.
1996-weak low pressure dropped light rainfall. Peak gust was 40 mph.
1999-Frontal passage combined with a wave of low pressure brought heavy rain and a few strong gusts. 31 was the strongest gust.

May 1-

Today is the author's half birthday.

1995- Strong winds accompanied heavy rain, Highest gust was 46 mph.
1997-Thunderstorms came from the southwest.
2005-Souwester approached. Heavy rain was reported during the early part of the day.
2006- Late season noreaster set in around 6 AM. The rain was primarily light, however just before midnight, heavier rain set in. Peak wind gust was 44 mph.
